Going head-to-head with television rival Samsung, Sony will send 3D televisions to market in June, and company officials said they expect 3D models will account for at least ten per cent of their sales in their current fiscal year.  Sony forecast total LCD-TV sales at just over 25 million.  Long-time Sony-watchers believe Sony envisions a multi-faceted entertainment operation, building on its gaming, music, and movie businesses, setting itself apart from upstarts LG and Samsung, which continue to produce only hardware.

Yoshihisa Ishida, a high-ranking Sony executive, told reporters Tuesday, “Sony will liberate 3D from the confines of movie theatres and make it something that people can enjoy at home.”  Other Sony executives, including CEO Howard Stringer, recently have told the press they expect 3D to boost not only television sales, but also Blu-ray DVD players, gaming stations, and digital cameras.

Right in step with the 3D announcement, Sony officials seized the opportunity at the San Francisco conference of Game Developers to strip the wraps off “Playstation Move,” which may enter some markets at the same time as 3D televisions and will go into widespread distribution in the fall of 2010.  They said Playstation Move will be sold both as a stand-alone product and in a bundle with the entire Playstation 3 system.

Giving voice to Sony’s high hopes, Peter Dille, the company’s senior vice-president in charge of marketing, told game developers the new motion controller is “fast, precise, and accurate.  We like to think this is the next generation of motion-gaming.”  More importantly, Dille added, “We’re really approaching this as a platform launch.”

 How speedy?  Faster than a Carrera GT, with a top-end speed officially posted at 198 mph—more than fast enough to blow-back your hair and make your cheeks a little floppy.

 And just how green?  Spyder 918 Concept officially boasts a 78 mpg rating, and it emits only 70gm CO2 per kilometre—one of the auto industry’s lowest ratings.

 Porsche officials declined to set a date for 918 Spyder’s debut in showrooms, but they smiled that, yes, it probably will be available in metallic green.

Featuring a 9.7-inch touch screen and motion sensitivity similar to the iPhone’s, iPad promises users the ultimate communications tool developed specifically for use in a mobile environment.  In other words, iPad does not replace your laptop computer, but it easily will render other handheld devices obsolete, or at least mediocre by comparison.  The iPad combines powerful internet capability with the hundreds of iPhone apps, and it allows both full-featured gaming and the capacity to read digital books.  Industry analysts predict brisk sales among avid computer and internet gamers, who will appreciate iPad’s speed and responsiveness; and they predict similarly brisk sales among college students, especially students at online university’s, because iPad will make their studies completely portable.  iPad’s digital reader already attracts educators, who recognize the possibilities for netbooks in classroom use even in kindergarten, and Apple products always have been educators’ first choice.

Both the devices, the tablet PC’s, from HP and Apple will be in the market for the regular consumers by March 2010. However, HP might make a move of making some slight modifications in its design and put it up for sale later this year. Although Microsoft and HP believes that this is a revolutionary step towards future technology many believe that the software that this touch screen pad has should have been something better then the normal windows software that consumers use in their regular PCs and Laptops. The idea of a new generation technique is to combine new forms of hardware as well as software to interest the user. This is not the case with this tablet PC.

However, where there are critics, there are fans as well. Some believe that having Windows 7 on a touch screen tablet PC is worth it and reading e-books and using other such software and features of the operating system is going to be a new and wonderful experience. The market is not so aware about this particular product for only one particular reason, the excitement and publicity limelight being showered completely upon the Apple’s speculative product, the iSlate.

Moreover, this is not limited to individuals only, as cellular phone companies can now make the necessary modifications in their smart phones, which they were unable to make previously.

This journey to open source started in 2008, when Nokia, the Finnish cellular phone organization, bought this operating system and helped in creating the Symbian Foundation which itself was a non-profit foundation. This foundation helped in the transition and development of this software and eventually reaches its open source status today. Previously its source code was available only to its members but from now, you can simply download the code from the Symbian foundation’s website and add on your contribution to this wonderful operating system and its other components.

The Symbian foundation consists of renowned members including Vodafone, Texas Instruments, STMicroelectronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, Motorola, AT&T, NTT Docomo and of course Nokia. When asked as to move behind making Symbian an open source the foundation members explained that for individual developers navigating through the technology itself took too much time to develop or modify an application. This meant that the development process for this wonderful technology was facing a huge intellectual problem, thus not allowing it to reach its potential. However, now with open source all that seems a history now.
