Relations strained between U.S. and Pakistan after Bin Laden attack

Bookmark and Share

Just how dumb does the Pakistani government think we are? They had Osama Bin Laden within thirty one miles (about 50 km) for at least the past six years and did not know the man was there? Unbelievable! That they did not want to get involved and bring on the wrath of Al Qaeda is more likely but still unforgivable in light of the fact nearly the entire world was on the look out for Bin Laden ever since September 11, 2001.

Straining the relationship between countries, Pakistan blames the U.S. for loss of their sovereignty. Stating they were not the subject of suicide attacks and threats before allied and U.S. forces began their invasion of Afghanistan and they resent becoming involved in the dangerous mix. Political analyst Imtiaz Gul from Pakistan believes that although some damage has been done, the relationship between the U.S. and Pakistan won’t fall apart and that we both need each other to keep the region as stable as possible.

Abbottabad, which is north of Islamabad by about 50 km is where Osama Bin Laden was finally located and killed on Monday, the first of May. So far reaction by intelligence officials from the region has been anger and with no reaction or answers regarding the events. Director of the CIA, Leon Panetta believes Pakistani officials have been incompetent or were actually involved with Bin Laden’s whereabouts and in either case they were entirely wrong while Pakistani officials remain positive they did nothing to compromise the nearly ten year long search for Osama Bin Laden.

Speaking on the Charlie Rose show (PBS television), Husain Haqqani U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, stated he was “relieved Bin Laden is no more” and that he was harmful to Muslims, Islam, and many other nations. But they will perform an inquiry into how and why the man could have gone undetected in a huge three story compound situated so near to a Pakistani military academy for so long.
