Syria Update: Peaceful demonstrators urged to end it before it’s too late

The Syrian government is trying to be patient and display some sort of charitable nature as they have placated the protesters that are peacefully expressing their grievances through quiet demonstrations. The protesters have been at work for over a month now and have no intention of giving up their cause. The Arab world has long had the reputation for being repressed and Syria is perhaps the most at fault in regards to oppressing the population and ruling with an iron hand. The past forty years of ruling in such a harsh manner have only provided proof that this type of governing will not be popular nor will it make for a prosperous country in any manner.

There have been at least two deaths due to security forces who cleared off the square, forcing protesters to flee in fear of their lives. The Interior Ministry has forbidden any more protests “under any banner whatsoever”. The emergency law which as been in effect ever since 1963 has been expected to be repealed, but no sign has been noticed yet as to this happening. So basic human rights are not yet available to the Syrian people and revolts will continue to occur until improvements have been reached.

The people on the street appear to be of one world while the president and his regime are in yet another with no common means of communications evident. The industrial city of Homs, near the Lebanese border, is the scene of another crackdown by government against protesters and thousands of citizens were drawn to funerals for fourteen demonstrators killed recently.

Familiar shouts of “a sit in, a sit in, and until government fails!” have risen from crowds throughout each day and once night fell the protesters served sandwiches and tea. Mattresses were brought in to enable some to sleep while others continued on with the protest, serving in shifts. No end appears to be in sight.
