Now Contribute to the Environment Welfare Through A Website: A Unique Idea!
In today’s world where a new technology is coming forth every minute, the European Union has come out with a wonderful idea to keep the world green with the help of technology. Yes, the EU citizens can now help to make the earth greener and a better place to live. The European Environment Agency and the Microsoft has launched a joint venture named Eye on Earth.
Eye on Earth is an interactive website where the people can contribute their different environment related views and observation there by helping others to notice certain valuable things.
The basic idea is to display the quality of air and water in a particular selected area through an interactive map. The site covers 32 countries all over the world.
The EEA also adds data about the environment of that specific are, which are recorded officially.
The map, which the site provides, is a perfect detailed high quality map along with facilities for the viewers to navigate across the map in order to find out the specific area, they are searching for.
Besides laying stress on the monitoring of air and water of several regions, the website has many future ambitions too. The most interesting fact is that, the creators are saying that this site will influenced the politician and will surely motivate them towards the correct steps. Professor Jacqueline McGlade, the executive director of EEA considers this site as a platform for the people to do something for their environment.
Several ways are being facilitate to the users so that they can contribute their observations. For instance, many preset values such as “clean” or “noisy” are provided from which you can choose the one you feel like.
Technologies such as the cloud based OS, the Microsoft mapping software and the windows Azure are used. It could not be possible without the cooperation of Microsoft, as explained by the Professor McGlade. However, the coordinator for the climate change, Phil Thornhill is still doubtful about the scheme as he believes that such a big organization like Microsoft has lots of agitations than what it will actually contribute.
However, it is quite true that such a venture will at least bring millions of people together for an important discussion which is a need of hour!
