Lowe’s pulls ads on All-American Muslim and gains respect!

When an ultra conservative group called the Florida Family Association, an evangelical Christian group, called on Lowe’s Home Improvement stores to cancel their advertisements on a program on TLC (The Learning Channel) it sparked plenty of controversy across the nation. The program in question is called All-American Muslim and it chronicles five families and how their lives are affected by life in America. Lowe’s did pull all their ads from the controversial program when it was determined that the show in question may have a hidden agenda. According to the Florida Family Association All-American Muslim is purely propaganda and that it may hide an Islamic agenda which is a clear and present danger to the U.S. and American traditional values and liberties.

Reality show All-American Muslim depicts what it’s like to be Muslim in the U.S.

The reality type show began airing last month and revolves around five different families who reside in Dearborn, Michigan. This Detroit suburb contains a large Arab-American and Muslim population and the premise is to show what it’s like growing up and living in America while being Muslim. It tells of racism shown against those of that faith and it’s racism that Lowe’s is being charged with now. California state senator Ted Lieu on Sunday stated to the Associated Press that the decision Lowe’s made regarding removing their advertisement dollars from the program displayed “naked religious bigotry” and was also “un-American”. He added he had sent a letter to Robert A. Niblock, Chief Executive Officer with Lowe’s with an outlined list of his complaints against the home improvement retailing giant. Further legislative action could be taken under consideration if Lowe’s did not make a formal apology to Muslims and then reinstate their ads.

Boycott called against home improvement giant Lowe’s

A boycott against Lowe’s may be the result of the store’s decision to pull their advertisements but that itself smacks of racism and shows a narrow mindedness that is decidedly un American. Lowe’s decision to remove their ads came after protests were voiced by the conservative Florida group and it made perfect sense at the time. Now the decision has sparked so much controversy that Lowe’s may never reinstate their ads under any circumstances. They have issued an apology and a statement this past Sunday saying they were sorry their decision (to pull ads) caused some people to become very unhappy.

The Amen family is “saddened” by the controversy and bigoted attitudes

Suehaila Amen and her family are one of those featured on the “All-American Muslim”, a reality show on TLC this month. She stated she was “saddened” by the bigotry displayed by those who succeeded in convincing Lowe’s to cancel their advertising and thus a sizeable financial investment in the program. Even though Lowe’s has now apologized the damage has already been done, both to the reality show itself and to Lowe’s reputation. Maybe they need to consider why there is so much fear, misdirected as it may be toward American Muslims, since the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. It’s been difficult but necessary to point fingers at who was to blame on that fateful day but many consider the perpetrators to be of the Muslim faith. It’s a big cold world out there with much to fear and few to truly trust.
