It may be time Herman Cane took his hat out of the presidential ring
How can a contender be on top of the heap of presidential “wanna be’s” one day and struggle to survive the very next? Ask Herman Cane. He got gobsmacked by rumors that became serious enough that his ranking dropped significantly over the past two weeks. The rumors which tell of indiscretions involving Cane and several women from his past are the type that have absolutely killed the chances of otherwise promising top runners in past political competitions. What is it about men in the political arena, or other professions that allow them to feel all powerful, that makes them think they can get away with almost any type of deceit, particularly of a sexual harassment nature?
After the dust cleared he’s still accused of harassing several women
Even though Cane was not running for any office back when he allegedly “manhandled” several women, he was their employer and as such should have used a lot more discretion in his treatment of them. Then there was the affair with Ginger White who stated they had “spent time” together for 13 years. Cane himself then stated, and with much arrogance, that there was no 13 year affair! Most likely he was thinking to himself that’s because it was only a 12½ year affair! Let’s decide between apples and oranges, OK? Or maybe the man just thought he could get away with it. How can someone with so many skeletons in his own personal closet even think about running for office without the crap catching up with him? If he’s lucky now his marriage may survive but his political career is most likely over.
It takes a big ego to be President of the most powerful nation but….
Herman Cane has been a leader and highly sought after motivational speaker during most of his life. As the CEO of Godfather’s Pizza he ran a tight ship and turned the business around, overseeing a transformation into a highly profitable business. If he could perform some of that sort of magic on the economy of this country we might even forgive him for his indiscretions but he needs to win the office first. And he can’t win the highest office in the land with the sort of dirty laundry he’s dragging along behind him. What possesses men like Herman Cane to even think of running for a high political office with all the hubris surrounding them? Does political power give them a feeling of entitlement or are they simply in total denial when it comes to their personal life? What they need to understand is they can no longer have a “personal” life when they choose to devote themselves to a cause that is higher than almost any other. Do we expect perfection in our president? Yes but we will probably never find it.
Who does that leave to grab the gauntlet and run with it?
Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman, and Michele Bachmann along with many others have each thrown their political hats into the ring, more or less. But is there any one among them who can beat out the incumbent President Barack Hussein Obama? Four years ago Obama’s past history was his own worst enemy. He refused to wear a flag pin, did not salute the United States flag, and was reportedly not even a US citizen. But he did win the presidency and now will fight with all his might to keep that office for another four years.
