Conrad Murray found guilty after weeks on trial!

Now days it’s entirely possible that jury verdicts will be the exact opposite of what may be considered just or correct. Look at the O.J. Simpson trial’s outcome. Or how about Casey Anthony’s acquittal? But almost anyone you talk to agrees that Dr. Conrad Murray got what he deserved! He was found guilty by twelve men and women, some of which were not even fans of Michael Jackson, the entertainer. Throughout the trial Conrad Murray’s facial expression barely changed but during the final days he appeared to have a “deer in the headlights” expression which changed over to a look of defeat upon the reading of the verdict on Monday.

Probation or four years?

Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter on Monday and was immediately put in handcuffs and remanded to jail until sentencing later in November. As is standard operating procedure with convicted felons, Murray is on suicide watch and most likely will remain so until he receives his sentence from Judge Michael Pastor on the 29th of November. Will he get off lightly with just probation or will he be slammed with the entire four years the law calls for? If his prior record is considered he will most likely get off lightly but then there is the fact that Murray did cause the death of a musical superstar. More than likely his time behind bars will be somewhere in the middle due to his reputation and the fact he has no prior criminal past. A factor that may determine his sentence might be a recently enacted California prison bill, AB 109. This bill allows for lower nor alternate sentencing for many in order to reduce prison over crowding. He may also receive a sentence that involves house arrest, again due to over crowding of California prisons. And he may well serve out any time he does get in L.A. County Jail instead of a California State Prison.

Will he ever be Doctor Conrad Murray again?

California law now strips the title and the license away from Murray and hopefully other states will follow suit. He has no business practicing medicine, either in this country or any other! Immediately following reading of the verdict lawyers for Murray pleaded for him to be remanded into ROR or his own custody. But Judge Pastor had other plans for the newly convicted felon and called for him to be immediately taken into custody and put behind bars until his sentencing. That surprised many courtroom observers but seemed to please Michael Jackson’s relatives, who had shown a bond of family unity throughout the entire trial.

Cause for celebration?

Although the family of Michael Jackson appeared to be quite pleased by the jury verdict, and fans around the world were seen to be celebrating by crying or singing while gathered in the streets, most agree the verdict was correct and just. The doctor’s attorneys had gone so far as to claim Jackson took the fatal overdose of Propofol entirely of his own volition and that he was addicted to it. Medical experts argued that Propofol is such a powerful surgical Anesthetic that no one could take more (entirely on their own) while already under the influence of the drug and that Murray was trying to throw Jackson “under the bus” and make it appear he did it to himself. It was bad enough that the doctor miss handled his own patient like he did but turning around and claiming Jackson did it to himself was entirely too much for fans of the musical superstar.
