Wind farm turbines take out essential security radar

Bookmark and Share

The DHS (Department of Homeland Security) has advised those who wish to install wind farms anywhere near their radar sites to cease and desist immediately! Well that’s what they’re attempting to do at least. Seems those huge turbines that gather the power of Mother Nature’s wind and convert it into usable electricity are interfering with radar that is vital to the security of the U.S. According to a study called the Wind Farm and Radar Report conducted by the Mitre Corporation and provided to the DOD (Department of Defense), the DHS (Department of Homeland Security), and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), and found at web site http://www.fas.org/irp/agency/dod/jason/wind.pdf, Wind Farms have been found to interfere with radar.

Radar VS cheap electricity from the wind

The antiquated radar systems in use for aviation are compromised by the huge blades found on wind turbines. Evidently they appear to mimic air plane propellers and even jet engine turbines to the point they cause confusion as to exactly what is being seen. Now studies are under way to determine how best to mitigate the problem so both the nation’s security and conserving energy can be possible. For the mean time new facilities that employ large wind turbines for the purpose of converting wind into electricity must apply for and obtain permission before proceeding. And they must definitely stay away from any radar facilities.

What does this announcement mean to U.S. security?

Now that it is a known fact that radar is “befuddled” by wind turbines how long will it be before unknown forces attempt to bridge the gap and enter the U.S. over wind farms? The fact that there are thousands of functioning wind turbines on wind farms already installed and in use across the U.S. hints that there may already be weak spots in our nation’s security system. Southern California, Texas, and the north western states like Oregon have huge wind farms functioning each day so how much harm can be done if those who wish to do us harm attempt to fly over those areas? Can the current though outdated radar infrastructure be replaced by newer, more flexible, and capable digital radar hardware controlled by modern computers? And how soon can we expect it to occur? Something must be done, and soon.
