Herman Cain on the offense now doing damage control over sexual harassment charges

Bookmark and Share

Herman Cain was humbled on Tuesday November 1, 2011 when his denial changed over to a maybe. On Monday he stated (to the Press Club) “In all of my over 40 years of business experience I have never sexually harassed anyone.”

However first one then a second allegation came out and by Tuesday Cain was stating that although he did not recall any sexual harassment charges being levied on him, that he might have signed a settlement document regarding the first woman who was named. Neither woman has yet to be named or has come forward. If they do this might be extremely detrimental to Cain’s campaign.

Cain deserves a chance to prove himself

Why is it that in politics, particularly involving Presidential campaign politics, that the accused is almost always guilty until proven innocent? He says he did not recall any sexual harassment issues from year gone by and even if there was an incident, how pertinent is it today? What exactly transpired well over ten years ago? There was an accusation followed up by a settlement back during Cain’s ’96-’99 term as the president of the National Restaurant Association. A woman did then receive what has been called an “undisclosed settlement” and the issue was closed. Cain remains steadfast in his claim that any incidents involving a sexual harassment charge can’t amount to anything because he would never do or say anything harmful deliberately. If something was misconstrued or misunderstood he meant no harm. That’s the way so many such claims go and there is always someone ready to take advantage and do an otherwise great man harm, especially at this critical time. Let’s hope this issue is resolved without harming the future career of Herman Cain.

“Short” allegation has no value

One can only imagine how easily restaurant workers can wrongly interpret a comment made by someone who is their superior. But this accuser was evidently someone who was higher up the ladder than a restaurant employee. She was attending a social affair and standing near Herman Cain when he made a statement something like “You are the same height as my wife” and “She is 5’ tall, only coming up to my chin, and so are you”. Now how can that be interpreted as sexual harassment unless it was recalled and then repeated by someone with an agenda?
