Social Security becomes a political football for GOP candidates
The battle lines are being drawn and it looks like the loser just might be the Social Security System. Republicans will have another debate tonight (Monday the 12th of September, 2011) and will most likely be a continuation of the battle that began a week ago between two of the top GOP contenders for the office of President of the United States. Rick Perry, Governor from Texas and Mitt Romney, Governor of Massachusetts, are to meet up at Florida’s State Fairgrounds tonight in Tampa. There will also be six other candidates taking the stage and joining in the battle for Social Security as well as a wide assortment of other topics.
Last weeks debate only fuelled the flames
The scene was in Simi Valley, California at Ronald Reagan’s Presidential Library. Rick Perry, new to the Presidential race who is also currently the frontrunner at the national polls, faced off with Mitt Romney, who is the previous front running candidate, as they heatedly debated topics like jobs (or lack thereof) and the decline of the U.S. Social Security system. Perry has commented that our Social Security just a “Ponzi type scheme” of monstrous proportions that will only prove to be an absolute lie for younger workers and that the 74 year old SSI system will not be there for them when they reach their retirement years. Romney struck back by saying the system works and has for been helpful for generations of Americans and will continue to be.
Perry shows his controversial side with mandatory sex vaccine
A battle is brewing between PerryCare and RomneyCare which seems to include Perry’s mandate on the sex vaccine HPV. He wants it to be mandatory for 12 year old females with or without parental consent. Republicans agree this may well be his downfall as it’s too controversial. Other candidates scheduled to appear at tonight’s GOP debate include Newt Gingrich (former Speaker of the House), Michel Bachmann from Minnesota, Texan Ron Paul, talks show host from radio Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, and Jon Huntsman. It should be interesting!
